KEMSA CEO: “Performance is the New Currency” as Agency Anchors Reset on Staff Stability & Accountability.

The Kenya Medical Supplies Authority (KEMSA) is undergoing a bold transformation—anchored on people, performance, and purpose.
Effective July 1, over 250 staff members have been formally reappointed into permanent, pensionable roles under a newly approved structure. This historic move—cleared by the Public Service Commission—comes with revised job descriptions, fairer pay bands, and a clear mandate: deliver results.
“This is not just a reshuffle. It's a reset. Uncertainty ends here. With job security comes responsibility—and performance is now our currency,” said CEO Dr. Waqo Ejersa.
For many staff, this transition marks a life-changing moment—bringing stability, dignity, and a renewed sense of purpose.
This shift is part of KEMSA’s upcoming Sustainable Growth Strategy 2025–2030, aligning its operations with Universal Health Coverage (UHC) goals and Vision 2030. The focus? Operational efficiency, financial sustainability, and trust in KEMSA’s core mandate: uninterrupted delivery of essential health commodities nationwide.
A 100-Day Rapid Results Initiative is already in motion, with departments targeting a 70%+ order fill rate—scaling beyond 90%. Every team has signed performance contracts. Accountability is no longer optional.
Internal reforms are deep: cost controls, restructured workflows, direct hospital procurement, and stronger county engagement. It’s all systems go.
“We are no longer talking about reform. We are delivering it—one team, one target, one result at a time,” Dr. Ejersa emphasized.
