KEMSA Fast-Tracks ERP Rollout, User Testing Marks Final Step Toward Digital Transformation

28/7/2028

The Kenya Medical Supplies Authority (KEMSA) has entered the final phase of User Acceptance Testing (UAT) for its SAP-based Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) system marking a major milestone in its ongoing digital transformation.

More than a routine system check, this phase is part of a

broader technology-first shift aimed at driving operational excellence and customer-centric service across KEMSA’s national health supply chain.

Cross-functional teams are now pressure-testing the platform in real-world simulations to ensure it delivers on the Authority’s strategic, financial, and performance objectives.

“UAT is our final checkpoint before going live and a critical validation that this system can

drive the daily value we need,” said Waiganjo Karanja, Director of Finance and Strategy at KEMSA. “It’s about empowering faster decisions, stronger oversight, and smarter service delivery.”

Backbone of the 2025–2030 Strategic Plan

The ERP system is a key enabler of KEMSA’s 2025–2030 Sustainable Growth Strategic Plan, which positions the Authority as a digitally powered,

high-performance public agency.

The platform will unify procurement, warehousing, distribution, and finance—reducing inefficiencies, improving transparency, and boosting responsiveness to health sector demands.

Its rollout also supports the ongoing 100-Day Rapid Results Initiative (RRI), a fast-tracked reform effort focused on restoring trust and institutional performance.

“We’re not just testing software—we’re validating a transformative solution at the heart of our modernization,” added Mr. Karanja. “This system will help us move faster, respond better, and deliver more—exactly what the health system and our partners demand.”

Laying the Digital Foundation for Smarter Service

Once deployed, the ERP will strengthen KEMSA’s operational

backbone streamlining workflows, reducing delays, and enabling real-time decision-making. It will also support more reliable access to essential health products, aligning with Kenya’s broader Universal Health Coverage (UHC) goals.

KEMSA’s technical and user teams have collaborated closely to reach this critical stage, reflecting strong internal alignment behind its digital ambitions.

“This is more than a system rollout, it’s a turning point in how we serve our clients and fulfill our mandate,” said Mr. Waiganjo.

“We’re laying the digital foundation for a modern, responsive, and future-ready KEMSA.”

With UAT nearing completion, the Authority is on track for full implementation ushering in a new era of innovation-led health logistics and reaffirming its commitment to excellence, efficiency, and service-first leadership.
