The engagement in the Coastal Strip capped an intensive tour across Kwale, Kilifi and Mombasa, where KEMSA reaffirmed its commitment to efficiency, accountability and uninterrupted supply of quality Health Products and Technologies (HPTs) in support of Universal Health Coverage (UHC).

A high-level KEMSA team accompanying the CEO; comprising Commercial Director Eliud Muriithi, Director, Finance and Accounts Waiganjo Karanja and the Coast Region Sales Team, held consultative talks with Mombasa County CEC for Health Dr. Swabah Ahmed and Chief Officer Dr. Shem Patta to review ongoing collaboration and explore sustainable supply chain solutions.

Dr. Ejersa highlighted that under President William Ruto’s healthcare reforms, KEMSA’s transformation is delivering tangible results.

The Authority’s Order Fill Rate has surged from 32% to over 70%, with several counties exceeding 90% including; Kilifi (94.9%), Makueni (98%) and Baringo (96%).

“We’ve adopted a private-sector model to boost efficiency and reliability. Our mission is simple: how many lives can we save?” said Dr. Ejersa.

Dr. Swabah Ahmed commended KEMSA’s affordability, transparency and improved delivery timelines, while Coast General Teaching and Referral Hospital CEO Dr. Iqbal Khandawalla emphasized the importance of sustaining reliable oncology supply chains.

At Port Reitz Sub-County Hospital, Dr. Ejersa and his team met Medical Superintendent Dr. Riziki Mulimba, who reaffirmed the facility’s strong partnership with KEMSA.

“We have no debts, we buy and pay for all our supplies from KEMSA,” Dr. Mulimba stated.

During the visit, KEMSA kicked off a new Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) project aimed at revamping the Port Reitz drug store to enhance commodity management and quality assurance.

Port Reitz, a key KEMSA customer, also serves as a critical first responder in emergencies due to its strategic proximity to the airport, railway, highway and ocean access points.

“We are happy to support Port Reitz and create a lasting partnership by giving back to the community. Securing your drug store will help preserve quality and strengthen the sub-county supply chain,” said Dr. Ejersa.

The Mombasa visit marked the culmination of KEMSA’s Coastal Reform and Partnership Tour, which featured high-level engagements with governors and senior health officials in Kwale, Kilifi and Mombasa, reaffirming the Authority’s commitment to reliable supply chains and county-driven healthcare transformation.
